A habitat for orphaned brown bears, located along the Turnagain Arm inlet in southeast Alaska. The building is burrowed in beneath the native tundra, using heavy timber construction and locally sourced materials.
The building is intended as a showcase for green building techniques and is an interpretation of the lost Eskimo building culture.
The center allows for public education about bear safety and bear observation across an 18-acre habitat.
